Winter Campfire was magical

My set sounded like butter.

Okay, so I’ve never held the title of Poet Laureate, but the ode above really does come from the heart. A part of me still can’t believe that I was able to play Club Passim & with one of my best friends, Eric K. Auld who provided me with beautiful accordion and glockenspiel parts to play along with. The performance was broadcasted online through concertwindow.com which was such a cool beans thought to think that people in their pj’s could be watching my set from their futons or on other sorts of cozy furniture while I was playing.

Hopeful Romantics (also known as the show I shamelessly composed a John Cusack haiku for in hopes to spread the word as fast as free cookies) was such a lovely success, a lovecessful event if you will – & if you won’t then perhaps you should check out the list below of the top 3 things I fell in love with during the show before you make such drastic decisions.

1)the beautiful siren sounds of Eva Walsh, Steph Barrak, Laura DiStasi, & Magen Tracy. If I had the physical capabilities of cartoon characters, then my jaw would have been right dab on the floor all nite during these ladies sets.

2)the MC of le evening, Hilary Hughes of the site, DigBoston. She sassily read love letters the audience composed from the best looking mailbox I’ve ever seen (thanks again Dad). Hopefully the letter my friend Kristen wrote to her missed connection, Luke, the Brooklyn barista, will force the universe to reunite them. Then there will be another thing about the show that I can say that I loved!

3)vegan cupcakes made by the impeccable Annie March of annie*rock productions. My bassist, Matt Girard, noted that these cupcakes were impressively tasty for not having any real butter in them. I’m a girl that let’s her actions do the talking, so by me having two of them, that meant I agreed with Matt’s observation.

& this goes without typing, but I always get these grateful goosebumps when playing live with Josh Cohen, Justin Hoffman, and Matt Girard. They’re amazing musicians & I wouldn’t have wanted to be in the company of three other men platonically then these gentlemen on Valentines Day.

This show was a Charlie Brown Valentines Special minus the childhood anxt.

Happy post Valentines Day, rock tarts. I hope the Hallmark Holiday left you all with feelings of gratitude for radio call in shows like Delilah as well as Peeps comeback, debuting chocolate covered marshmallow hearts. I kid you not. I wonder what the yellow birds must think. Anywho, the last couple of days have been filled with music-playing and migrating back & forth from NY to MA for said music-playing, so let’s talk about it!

I reached new levels & heights playing in an elevator at Mass Moca for their annual Free Day. & then I went back down. But then I went back up again, because that’s what happens when you’re on an elevator.

Because of my preference to watch Netflix documentaries instead of going out, that phrase hasn’t been used in quite some time. Magnet Magazine premiered the music video to Alex The Great on their wonderful indie-loving web segment Film At 11. So come to think of it, I did watch something on my lap top last nite in exchange of hitting some sort of town or scene in an intentionally matching outfit. I am one lucky duck.

Since my last post, Passenger has been steadily increasing its speed being able to create the opportunity of an awesome phone interview with Eric Danton of Listen Dammit. I remember punctuating a lot of my answers with laughter, so typless to say it was a fantastic experience. To read what Eric thought of my ramblings, you can click here, or here.

It’s 11:40 & I thought I would be too tired to do anything but catch some z’s on my beloved twin-size cloud, but it seems that all the positive feedback from my albums release to the digital world has caused a surge of adrenaline within me that can only be compared to my Christmas Eve’s from 89-96′. It makes me so happy to be able to share these songs with a mesh of people I love and people I’ve never met.

In other news,

Let’s get some shows! A whole bunch of show dates will be coming soon and you bet they will be posted on this here site as well as my facebook page asap.

My Dad is an awesome man. He posted this picture on my facebook wall last nite in efforts to tell me how proud he is of me for figuring out how to sign up my album to get onto itunes and amazon. What I initially got out of the milk-carton portrait was how bad my Mom is at cutting bangs.

I had the pleasure of being able to acoustically rock out with Josh in The Corner of The Middle East Monday nite. pre-show hummus was consumed as ambitious Peter Gabriel & Rob Thomas covers thundered out of the speakers. Lee, the booking agent made sure we were taken care of by drawing smiley faces on our hands with sharpie, ensuring that free beer (I’m trying to like drinking it) and wine could fill our glasses freely. our set and the audience’s response both shared the adjective of fantastic and after the cinematic outro ripped from the songbook pages of LMFAO’s Party Rock (we have been unapologetically playing this intro & outro for every show since Philly) Lee gave me a red rose. future venue bookers, the expectations have been risen.

For curious blog readers, here’s a video from that nite of Josh & I performing “Heartly” which was kindly recorded by Sophia Cacciola who plays in various cool beans musical projects with her husband, Michael Epstein. watch?v=3H0ig3yqzKc

I find it so awesomely fitting that Annie Lennox’s cover of Walking In A Winter Wonderland is playing over the speakers of the Mass. rest area where I’m soaking up the wifi as well as the scent of quarter pounder with cheese’s before tonite’s show at The Middle East. I find this to be awesome (the song – not the smell) because I’m gearing up my blogging fingers to type the adventures of playing The Winter Walk this past Saturday with the acoustically wow-inspiring, Danie Ferrusi (www.danieferrusi.com). many a songs were sung in the course of a three hour set in Homage Antiques, the cutest antique store you’ll ever meet. the pleasure was all ours singing the songs we wrote together in front of a stunning portrait that somewhat terrified us and made us crave Zatarains all at the same time. I wanted to name the man in the painting Pete. So I did.
